Arleta is a Los Angeles neighborhood in the San Fernando Valley region. It is bounded to the north by Pacoima, to the east by Sun Valley, to the south by Panorama City, and to the west by Mission Hills. The name “Arleta” is a combination of the Spanish words “arroyo,” which means “stream,” and “leta,” which is short for “leat.” The Arroyo de las Piedras, a little creek that passes through the area, inspired the name. In the 1950s, the area was established as a suburban enclave for families working in the surrounding aerospace and manufacturing industries.
Arleta’s population is approximately 48,000 people, with a median age of 34. The community is primarily Latino, having a large Hispanic population and a lesser number of other ethnicities. Arleta’s abundance of small, single-family dwellings is one of its distinguishing traits. The Los Angeles Unified School District serves Arleta and maintains numerous public schools in the neighborhood, including Arleta High School and Arleta Middle School. St. Genevieve Catholic School and Our Lady of the Valley School are two of the neighborhood’s private schools.
Arleta is a calm area with low crime rates when compared to other districts of Los Angeles. The neighborhood is recognized for its close-knit, family-oriented environment, and many people take care in their houses and gardens.
Arleta has seen some gentrification in recent years, despite its reputation as a working-class area. Although the inflow of new people and businesses has resulted in certain modifications, the neighborhood has managed to keep much of its unique flavor.
Arleta is conveniently located near numerous major highways, including the 5, 118, and 405, making it easy for inhabitants to get throughout the city.
